An associative film in which the Flemish director Isabelle Tolleneare portrays a poetic view on how Europeans are remembering, (re)presenting and interpreting the impactful events of the past 100 years. She presents this through landscapes, people and objects reflecting the scars of their past. The movie shows how bunkers become cow stables in Albania, how forgotten bombs are blown up at an abandoned amusement park in Belgium, how inflatable artillery is put together in Russia and how prison camps in Soviet Russia are sold as tourist attractions in Latvia.
Battles is filmed in the present, it talks about the past, but looks into the future.
